The Ethereal Landscape

Self-taught photographer Alexandre Deschaumes called one series of image ‘Ethereal Atmospheres’ which comes close to capturing the feeling of his hyper-realistic, moody landscapes.

Deschaumes spends time hiking out into the wildernesses of Iceland, Patagonia and the Alps looking for locations and listening to what he describes as his ‘inner feeling’ about a place. He advises others to ‘feel the atmosphere of their surroundings’ and this empathy and sensitivity to nature allows his pictures to have real soul even though they have a considerable about of post work done on them. To often the manicured HDR image is all about technique and little about feeling.

Deschaumes shows that it needn’t be that way.

For anyone interested, I found a great interview with the Frenchman from 2011, which is worth reading.
