Animals. Who doesn’t love them? They’re all cuddly and furry. You just want to hug them all.
Only of course if you were to hug a bear or a lion, the chances are you might find yourself severely dead.
Which is a condition that could really harm your career.
Looking at Tim Flach’s book ‘More than Human’ you get the feeling that these beautiful animal portraits lull us into a false sense of what an animal really is.
There’s a kind of Disney-fication that takes place where animals become not just more than human but well…actually human
For example, his portrait of a monkey family deliberately reminds us of the kind of family shots you might put on the mantelpiece.
That said the images are so distinctive and original that it seems almost churlish to offer any criticism.
They are the kind of pictures that already feel ‘classic’ and undoubtedly will endear Flach to an ever-greater legion of admirers
