All over the world it would seem, there are brilliant photographers quietly amassing beautiful bodies of work.
People like Pentti Sammallahti, whose images are as striking as his name is hard to spell.
Over the last few decades he has wondered the world bringing us strangely magical, almost mythical images that are full of poetry and charm.
Like all great photographers his images remind us a little of other great image makers, a touch of Ansel Adams here, a bit of Josef Koudelka there but still remain resolutely original and distinctive.
The retrospective of his work released this year ‘Here, Far Away’ is probably my favorite photographic book of the year and I wont be surprised to see it deservedly on many year-end, best of lists.
