A Book of Books

Books can be exciting to read but rather less exciting to photograph. In fact given a choice between shooting in an exotic location and shooting in a library, 99.9% of snappers aren’t choosing the library.

Abelardo Morell is one of the few that would, judging by the beautiful images in his ‘A Book of Books’ series.

They are proof of what you can do if you love your subject and are blessed with a superlative visual imagination.

Morell is more famous for his images using the camera obscura (which are also fabulous) but the images in this series impress me more, for they create a world as magical and mysterious as the stories within these books. Taking us to the heart of the transformative power of the reading experience.

In short he makes these familiar, even mundane looking objects seem suddenly magical.
