Sergio Larrain

Chilean photographer Sergio Larrain is one of those artists who is perhaps not as well-known as he should be. His black and white images taken while working for the Magnum photo agency in the 1950’s are beautifully composed and full of love for his subjects.

Personally, I feel his best images are those of of South American street kids which bring to mind the work of Dario Mitidieri.

Last year Aperture produced a beautiful hardback book of his work, which acts as a fitting tribute to a man praised by Cartier-Bresson and writers like Julio Cortozar and Chilean compatriot Roberto Bolano.
