Portrait of the Past

If you were doing a photographic portrait in 1865 chances are you’d make a tintype which according to Wikipedia is a photograph made ‘by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of iron coated with a dark lacquer’.

However they were made they look really cool so it’s no surprise that some photographers have revived the process to give their portraits a distinctive look.

Victoria Will is one such. Her celebrity portraits are some of the more arresting I’ve seen recently and prove the old adage that everything that is old is new again at some point.
