Seeing Nils Frahm at the Knockdown Center in Queens this week reminded me how everything old is new again. In the seventies, people would pay to see artists like Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis perform surrounded by banks of keyboards and technology today Nils Frahm occupies a similar space. Obviously, between now and then, house, techno, and ambient music have all appeared and evolved, and that plays into a lot of what Frahm does. Still, the swirling bank of digital noted that interact to create a wash of sound reminds me of something that long predates it. Personally, I can’t get enough of it and Frahm’s new album, ‘All Melody,’ which this tour supports is a gem and one that I have been playing constantly. It’s the perfect Sunday morning chillout music.
